Installation and inspection of lightning protection and grounding system on an offshore platform

In February 2025, b.offshore GmbH installed the lightning protection and grounding system for the MLQ accommodation containers on an offshore platform under construction at a shipyard in Spain. During the commissioning phase in the North Sea, a comprehensive visual and metrological inspection of the external and internal lightning protection systems was carried out. The focus was on the metrological inspection of the earthing connections below the accommodation containers and the connection to the structural foundation.

In addition, all screw connections were checked for correct fit and tightening torque. In the main distribution panels of the technical containers and the sub-distribution panels of the individual accommodation units, the standard-compliant installation of surge protection devices (SPDs) was confirmed.

This work contributes significantly to the safety and standard-compliant equipment of the platform and underlines the technical competence of our team in the field of offshore electrical engineering.
