New fire doors for greater safety
As part of a recent project, two existing fire doors on an offshore converter platform were replaced with new ones. Fire doors fulfil an important function on the platforms: they separate different areas from one another and help to contain the spread of a fire as effectively as possible in the event of an emergency.
As the existing doors no longer met current requirements, b.offshore GmbH was commissioned to replace the two doors. In addition to planning and preparing the project, the scope of work included removing the existing doors, transporting the new door components to the installation site and fitting them professionally.
Transporting the heavy doors within the platform posed a particular challenge. Furthermore, the precise installation under the specified conditions required careful planning and strict adherence to the technical specifications.
Once installation was complete, the adjacent rooms were inspected as part of a final airtightness test (blower-door test). The test was successful and confirmed that the work had been carried out to a high standard.
The replacement of the two fire doors significantly improved safety in the affected areas whilst also ensuring a reliable separation between the individual sections of the platform.
